How Did This Journey Begin? | About Us

Before venturing to the West, Srila Prabhupada’s journeys often led him to Delhi, where he dedicated much time to printing books. Later, Delhi became more than just a stopover; it became a base, with Srila Prabhupada residing at the Shri Shri Radha Vallabhji temple in Chippiwara. He traversed the streets, distributing the “Back to Godhead” magazine and observing the evolving landscape of India’s capital.

Amidst a crowd seemingly disinterested in his teachings, Srila Prabhupada discerned the shifting cultural tides, marked by what leaders hailed as “development.” Concerned about the erosion of Vedic values over time, he aspired to revive the ancient culture in Delhi.

In 1973, Srila Prabhupada returned to Delhi with his global disciples, unveiling a grand vision to erect twelve magnificent temples in the city.

ISKCON Ghaziabad: A Beacon of Spiritual Awakening

In alignment with Srila Prabhupada’s vision, HH Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj inaugurated ISKCON Ghaziabad, the seventh temple in the National Capital Region.

The temple’s doors swung open on January 31, 2007, amidst a three-day celebration coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Nityananda Triyodashi. Over 8,000 devotees joyously welcomed the Lord to His new abode. Recognizing the temple’s significance, the Mayor of Ghaziabad christened the temple compound “Hare Krishna Square” and the adjacent road “The Hare Krishna Marg.”

ISKCON Ghaziabad: Triumphs and Trials

For devotees, the completion of the Ghaziabad temple marked a monumental achievement after over a decade of community development and three years of rigorous construction.

Spanning four stories and boasting a fifteen-room guest house, the temple stands as a testament to dedication and generosity. The Arora family from London played a pivotal role by donating prime land in Raj Nagar, adorned with pink Jaipur stone, intricately carved wooden altars, Italian marble floors, gilded ceiling motifs, chandeliers, and a majestic spiral staircase.

ISKCON Ghaziabad: Abode of Divinity

At the heart of ISKCON Ghaziabad lies Lord Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe, accompanied by Baladeva and Subhadra. Additionally, Shri Shri Radha Madan Mohan Ji bestows divine blessings upon the city’s denizens.

Recognizing Ghaziabad’s youthful demographic, the temple has prioritized youth outreach initiatives, especially with the presence of prestigious engineering colleges in the vicinity. A newly inaugurated BBT bookstore, expansive conference and seminar halls, and a spacious dining area aim to engage and nurture the vibrant youth community.
